In this lesson
Classify a given algebraic statement correctly as an expression, equation, formula, identity or inequality, and identify a term or factor within one.
What it covers
- Expression: a collection of terms with no equals sign
- Equation: a statement with = that is only true for particular value(s) of the unknown
- Formula: a rule, usually connecting two or more different quantities, e.g. A = lw
- Identity: a statement true for every value of the unknown, shown with the identical-to symbol
- Inequality: a statement using less-than/greater-than symbols instead of =
- Term and factor as vocabulary
- Matching or classifying a given statement against these five categories
