Regions Satisfying Linear Inequalities in Two Variables
MA18-04
This lesson is coming soon.
In this lesson
Draw the boundary line for a linear inequality in two variables using the correct solid or dashed convention, and identify or describe the region satisfying one or more inequalities together.
What it covers
- Drawing boundary lines for inequalities of the form x = c, y = c, and y = mx + c on a coordinate grid
- The solid-line convention for <=, >= (boundary included) and the dashed-line convention for <, > (boundary excluded)
- Shading or identifying the region on the correct side of a single boundary line
- Combining two or three inequalities to identify the overlapping region that satisfies all of them
- Reading a shaded region back into the set of inequalities that define it

For teachers
This GCSE Maths lesson teaches regions satisfying linear inequalities in two variables. By the end, students should be able to draw the boundary line for a linear inequality in two variables using the correct solid or dashed convention, and identify or describe the region satisfying one or more inequalities together. It works through two worked examples and the mistakes examiners report.
