Solving geometry problems on coordinate axes

MA28-09

This lesson is coming soon.

In this lesson

Apply reflection, rotation and enlargement skills to shapes and points plotted on x-y coordinate axes, including transformations centred at a stated coordinate.

What it covers

  • Reading and plotting coordinates accurately before transforming
  • Applying reflection in axis-based mirror lines (x=0, y=0, x=a, y=b) on coordinate axes
  • Applying rotation about a coordinate centre (e.g. (0,0) or (2,-1))
  • Applying enlargement from a coordinate centre
  • Stating the resulting coordinates of transformed vertices

For teachers

This GCSE Maths lesson teaches solving geometry problems on coordinate axes. By the end, students should be able to apply reflection, rotation and enlargement skills to shapes and points plotted on x-y coordinate axes, including transformations centred at a stated coordinate. It works through two worked examples and the mistakes examiners report.
