Finding the mirror line from a shape and its image

MA28-02

This lesson is coming soon.

In this lesson

Given a shape and its reflected image, construct and state the equation of the mirror line (e.g. x = a, y = b, y = x).

What it covers

  • Locating the mirror line by joining a vertex to its image and finding the perpendicular midpoint
  • Stating the mirror line in the form x=a, y=b, or y=x/y=-x
  • Writing 'reflection' plus the correct line as a complete two-part formal description

For teachers

This GCSE Maths lesson teaches finding the mirror line from a shape and its image. By the end, students should be able to given a shape and its reflected image, construct and state the equation of the mirror line (e.g. x = a, y = b, y = x). It works through two worked examples and the mistakes examiners report.
